The Pôle culturel du Monastère des Ursulines occupies an expansive complex of stone buildings in Old Quebec, recognizable by their steep roofs and classic seventeenth-century colonial architecture. This site marks the location of the first school for girls in North America, established in sixteen thirty-nine by Marie de l'Incarnation. She arrived from France to lead the mission, eventually overseeing the construction of a monastery that grew and evolved alongside the colony.
