La Rotonde du Parc Monceau

The Rotunda of Parc Monceau is a circular, neoclassical pavilion topped by a prominent dome, standing at the park’s main entrance on the Boulevard de Courcelles. Designed by the architect Claude-Nicolas Ledoux and completed in seventeen eighty-seven, it was originally built as a customs house along the Wall of the Farmers-General. This massive wall was constructed to enclose Paris, allowing the authorities to collect taxes on goods like wine and meat entering the city.
