The Spee'scher Graben is a long, tranquil body of water that winds through the Carlstadt district, recognizable by the heavy stone masonry of the old Marie Amalie bastion that borders its edges. This park ensemble and its surrounding paths were established beginning in eighteen oh six, following the destruction of the city’s fortifications under Napoleon.
