Dae-Yang Asiatische Lebensmittel sits on Immermannstraße, a street known for its high concentration of Japanese and Korean shops and restaurants. The name Dae-Yang comes from two characters meaning great ocean, a nod to the shop's original focus on fresh fish when it first opened its doors in nineteen eighty-four. At the time of its founding, it was the only shop in Düsseldorf that sold both Korean and Japanese goods.
