The Cineplex Rundkino is defined by its circular, fifty-meter-wide drum shape, which gives the building the appearance of a landed vessel. Completed in nineteen seventy-two, the structure was designed by architects Manfred Fasold and Winfried Sziegoleit to contrast with the rigid, cuboid buildings nearby. Its exterior features a glass-fronted ground floor topped by protruding steel ornaments, which were originally intended to create a sense of levitation when illuminated at night.
