Higashi Chaya District

The Higashi Chaya District is defined by its wooden buildings featuring kimusuko, a distinct style of lattice-work windows on the first floor. These lattices were designed to allow those inside to see out clearly while keeping the interior view hidden from passersby. As the largest of three historical teahouse districts in Kanazawa, this area was established by the Kaga Domain in eighteen twenty.
