Kenroku-en

park garden

Kenroku-en is defined by a stone lantern, the Kotoji-tōrō, which stands out for its two uneven legs that rest directly in the shallow water of Kasumiga-ike Pond. This garden, located on the heights of central Kanazawa next to the castle, is one of the three most celebrated landscape gardens in Japan. Its name translates to the Garden of Six Attributes, referring to an ancient Chinese text that outlines the qualities of an ideal landscape: spaciousness and seclusion, human artifice and antiquity, and water features and panoramic views.
