Kenrokuen Mayumizaka Gate

The Mayumizaka Gate serves as a quiet threshold into Kenrokuen, one of Japan's three most famous gardens. Unlike the main entrances that face the bustle of Kanazawa Castle, this gate sits diagonally across from the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art. Its name, which translates to Mayumi Slope, marks the beginning of an intentional ascent designed by the Maeda clan during the Edo period.
