The D.T. Suzuki Museum is defined by the Water Mirror Garden, a flat, glassy pool that fills the central courtyard between its three minimalist concrete structures. Opened in two thousand eleven, the museum commemorates Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki, a philosopher born in this city who spent his life translating and explaining Zen Buddhism to the Western world. Architect Yoshio Taniguchi designed the site to avoid monumentality, favoring instead a layout that mirrors the quiet, unassuming character of Suzuki himself.
