Kanazawa Shinise Kinenkan

The Kanazawa Shinise Kinenkan occupies a traditional wooden townhouse that was once home to the Nakaya Pharmacy. Built in eighteen seventy-eight to honor a visit from the Meiji Emperor and later renovated in nineteen nineteen, the building was donated to the city by the Nakaya family in nineteen eighty-seven. Its name, Shinise, refers to a long-established merchant house, characterized by a storefront at the front and living quarters at the back.
