Kotoji Stone Lantern

The Kotoji Stone Lantern sits at the edge of Kasumigaike Pond, defined by two curved legs of unequal length. This distinct shape mimics the bridge used to adjust the strings on a koto, the traditional Japanese harp. The lantern is a central feature of Kenrokuen Garden, a site established in the seventeenth century by the ruling Maeda clan to serve as an outer garden for the nearby Kanazawa Castle.
