Oyama Shrine

religious

Oyama Shrine is recognizable by its unusual three-story main gate, known as the Shinmon. Completed in eighteen seventy-five, this gate is a blend of Japanese, Chinese, and European architectural styles. Its third floor features stained-glass windows that once housed a light, allowing the structure to serve as a beacon or lighthouse for the city. At the very top sits a lightning rod, which is officially recognized as the oldest existing one in Japan.
