Rotown occupies a former Chinese restaurant at number nineteen Nieuwe Binnenweg. Since opening its doors on April thirtieth, nineteen eighty-seven, the venue has functioned as a central stage for rock and indie music in Rotterdam. The name itself is a local variation of Motown, a title coined by musician Peter Snoei and immortalized by the Rotterdam poet Jules Deelder.
