Artus Court is identifiable by its elaborate Dutch Mannerist facade on Długi Targ, adorned with statues of antique heroes like Scipio Africanus and topped by a figure of Fortuna. Established in the fourteenth century and named for the legendary King Arthur, the building served as an exclusive social club for Gdańsk’s elite merchants and guilds. Its grand hall functioned as the city’s most expensive gathering place, where members negotiated international shipping contracts and settled commercial disputes under the watchful eyes of their peers.
