A three-meter-tall column stands on the Długi Targ, capped by a glass cabinet that houses a mercury thermometer and a barometer. This structure, known as the Fahrenheit Meteorological Column, commemorates Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit, the physicist and engineer who was born in Gdańsk in sixteen eighty-six. The column is a modern reconstruction based on a similar device that existed in this same area before the Second World War.
