Fahrenheita House

The building at ninety-five Ogarna Street is recognized as the childhood home of Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit. You can pick it out by the plaque on its facade shaped like a thermometer, which marks the birthplace of the physicist who created the mercury-in-glass thermometer and the temperature scale that bears his name. Born here in sixteen eighty-six, Fahrenheit was the eldest of ten children in a merchant family. His early years in Gdańsk ended in tragedy in seventeen oh one, when both of his parents died suddenly after reportedly eating poisonous mushrooms.
