Katownia

The Katownia is identified by its distinctive red, two-sided roof and a facade featuring carved stone busts, one of which was damaged in nineteen forty-five to reveal its internal structure. This building, known as the Torture Chamber, forms a significant part of the historic Foregate Complex in central Gdańsk. While its origins as a city gate trace back to the fourteenth century, it was heavily reconstructed between fifteen ninety-three and sixteen oh four by architect Anthonis van Obbergen.
