University of Bern

The University of Bern Main Building is defined by its series of domed roofs, which sit prominently above the city of Bern on the Grosse Schanze terrace. Completed in nineteen oh three, the structure was the winning design by architects Alfred Hodler and Eduard Joos. It features a grand sandstone facade and a ceremonial staircase that leads visitors toward the central auditorium, where the domed ceiling is painted with allegories of the various academic faculties.
