Custom House Square is defined by the massive, two-story Italianate building of the same name, designed by Charles Lanyon and completed in eighteen fifty-seven. This square rests on land reclaimed in the seventeen hundreds that once held the Salthouse and Lime Kiln docks. It marks the historic birthplace of Belfast, situated where the River Farset meets the River Lagan.
