The Salmon of Knowledge

monument

The ten-meter-long ceramic sculpture known as the Big Fish, or the Salmon of Knowledge, sits on the banks of the River Lagan at Donegall Quay. Clad in hundreds of printed ceramic tiles, the sculpture marks the confluence of the River Farset and the River Lagan, the very spot where the city of Belfast began. Artist John Kindness created the piece in nineteen ninety-nine to celebrate the return of fish to the Lagan after a long absence.
