Castle Lane

Castle Lane is a pedestrianized street in the heart of Belfast, recognizable by the modern, blocky buildings and the narrow passages that branch off toward Cornmarket. The name preserves the memory of a medieval fortress built by Norman invaders in the late twelfth or early thirteenth century to guard a strategic ford over the River Lagan. While that structure is long gone, the street remains a primary artery in the city center.
