The Spirit of Belfast is a large-scale steel structure composed of four interlocking rings that stand in the center of Arthur Square. It sits on a raised plinth in a location where a bandstand once stood. Designed by the artist Dan George, the sculpture is intended to reflect the city’s history, with its metal construction representing the strength of the shipbuilding industry and its form and lighting designed to evoke the texture and lightness of linen.
