Guardians of the Gate

The sculpture Guardians of the Gate consists of a bronze male and female sea lion nuzzling a pup. Cast in Everdur bronze in nineteen ninety-one by artist Miles Metzger, it occupies a space northwest of Pier Thirty-Nine in Fisherman’s Wharf. The figures are positioned together, creating a distinct family grouping that highlights the sea lions frequently found in the harbor nearby.
