Theatre of Yugen occupies a fifty-seat venue known as NOHspace, situated within the historic Project Artaud arts complex in the Mission District. The company focuses on the Japanese theatrical traditions of Noh drama and Kyogen comedy, which date back more than six hundred years. While Noh is characterized by slow, ritualized movement and masks, Kyogen offers a satirical counterpoint often centered on clever servants and their masters.
