Lobos Creek is defined by its role as the only free-flowing stream left above ground in San Francisco. It marks the division between Baker Beach and China Beach, carrying water from the springs near Mountain Lake through a valley that was, two centuries ago, part of a vast system of sand dunes. The name comes from the Spanish phrase for sea wolf, a local reference to the sea lion.
