The Lobos Valley Overlook offers a view of restored coastal sand dunes and the free-flowing Lobos Creek, which remains the primary water source for the Presidio. This landscape was once covered by industrial military infrastructure, but beginning in nineteen ninety-four, park staff and volunteers worked to remove those structures and reconstruct the dunes using local sand. Today, native plant species, including the endangered San Francisco lessingia, grow across the valley, creating an ecosystem that resembles the terrain photographer Ansel Adams knew as a child growing up nearby.
