Lincoln Park (San Francisco)

Lincoln Park is recognizable by the sprawling eighteen-hole golf course that occupies much of the terrain, punctuated by the neoclassic architecture of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor. Located on a bluff at the northwestern corner of San Francisco, the park occupies land that was once the site of the municipal City Cemetery. Established in eighteen sixty-eight, the burial ground served the city’s indigent populations and various ethnic and fraternal societies for decades before burials were banned at the turn of the twentieth century.
