Old Bakery and Emporium

The Old Bakery and Emporium is a brick-and-limestone building on Congress Avenue that has occupied its site since eighteen seventy-six. Built by Swedish immigrant Charles Lundberg, it operated as a popular bakery for sixty years, serving bread and pastries to local residents and visitors traveling toward the nearby state capitol. You can identify the structure by its historical, nineteenth-century storefront, which remains one of the few largely unaltered buildings on the avenue.
