Waller Creek Boathouse

The Waller Creek Boathouse sits at the water’s edge on Lady Bird Lake, identifiable by its two-story design and the large observation deck that stretches out over the lagoon. It opened in twenty twelve as part of a major city infrastructure project meant to control local floodwaters. While the building functions as a center for rowing, kayaking, and paddleboarding, its existence is tied to the Waller Creek Tunnel, a massive storm water bypass system built deep underground to protect downtown Austin from the creek's historical tendency to overflow.
