Saint Mary Catholic Cathedral is identifiable by its towering neo-Gothic spires and massive, locally quarried limestone walls that rise above the street on a prominent natural bluff. Designed by Irish-born architect Nicholas J. Clayton, the structure blends traditional European Gothic features with distinctive local motifs, such as a baldachino interior canopy adorned with carvings of Texas cactus and bluebonnets.
