The Texas State Capitol is defined by its massive, sunset-red granite walls and a central dome that rises over three hundred feet into the air. This Italian Renaissance Revival structure, which houses the offices of the governor and the state legislature, was completed in eighteen eighty-eight. It was built to replace an earlier limestone capitol that burned to the ground in eighteen eighty-one.
