Texas Governor's Mansion

The Texas Governor's Mansion is defined by its six tall Ionic columns that span the front porch, supporting a design in the Greek Revival style. Completed in eighteen fifty-six, the house occupies a full city block in downtown Austin and has served as the official residence for every governor since. Master builder Abner Cook used local clay for the bricks and pine from nearby Bastrop to construct this symmetrical two-story home, which remains the oldest continuously occupied governor's residence west of the Mississippi River.
