The O. Henry Museum is a small, nineteenth-century rental cottage that stands as a deliberate holdout among the high-rise buildings of downtown Austin. Built in eighteen eighty-six, this four-room frame house served as the home for writer William Sydney Porter, his wife, Athol, and their daughter from eighteen ninety-three to eighteen ninety-five. Porter later gained worldwide fame under the pen name O. Henry, celebrated for short stories featuring signature twist endings.
