The Comedy Mothership occupies the historic Ritz Theater, a building recognizable on East Sixth Street for its long history as a downtown landmark. Originally built in nineteen twenty-nine as one of the first theaters in Austin designed specifically for sound films, the space has undergone many changes, serving as a punk rock club in the eighties and later as an Alamo Drafthouse. In twenty twenty-two, comedian Joe Rogan purchased the building and commissioned architect Richard Weiss to renovate the interior into a dedicated comedy destination.
