The Ship Inn stands at the corner of Stanley and Sidon Streets, easily identified by its Victorian filigree architecture and masonry render. Constructed in eighteen sixty-four, it began as the Railway Hotel in anticipation of a rail line that took nearly two decades to arrive. Its early years were marked by financial struggle, and the building even functioned as a boarding house before it was officially licensed as the Ship Inn in eighteen seventy-nine.
