Quarry Street takes its name from the nineteenth-century extractive industry that defined this pocket of Spring Hill. The street runs near the site of the former Leichhardt Street Quarry, a location where colonial-era laborers pulled stone from the earth to provide building materials for a growing Brisbane. By nineteen oh five, residential houses were recorded perching precariously along the very edges of these deep excavations.
