Linnahall is a monumental, low-rise slab of concrete on the Tallinn waterfront, recognizable by its symmetrical, stepped form that resembles a ziggurat or an ancient pyramid. Architects Raine Karp and Riina Altmäe designed this sprawling structure for the nineteen eighty Moscow Summer Olympics, as Tallinn hosted the games' sailing events. The building was officially known as the V. I. Lenin Palace of Culture and Sport when it opened.
