Toompea Castle is recognizable by the striking, pastel-pink Baroque palace facade that stands in sharp contrast to the surrounding medieval limestone fortifications. This complex serves as the center of power in Estonia and currently houses the national parliament, the Riigikogu. The site has been an administrative and military stronghold for eight hundred years, occupied in turn by Danish kings, the Teutonic Order, Swedish governors, and the Russian Empire.
