Cimetière Ouest de Boulogne Billancourt

historic

The Cimetière de l’Ouest, or Western Cemetery, is defined by a central circular plaza featuring a small obelisk that marks the communal ossuary. Established in eighteen fifty-nine, it is the third cemetery to serve this community. Its creation followed the state’s decision to expropriate a previous burial ground on the site of Longchamp for the construction of a horse racing track. The grounds were built between eighteen fifty-seven and eighteen fifty-eight on land selected by the prefect Georges-Eugène Haussmann.
