The Académie Vitti occupied a space at forty-nine boulevard du Montparnasse, operating as a private art school between eighteen eighty-nine and nineteen fourteen. It was founded by an Italian family from the Valle di Comino region: Cesare Vitti, his wife Maria Caira, and her sisters Anna and Jacinta Caira. Originally arriving in Paris to work as professional artist models, the family eventually opened their own studio to provide an alternative to the rigid traditions of the École des Beaux-Arts.
