The Musée du Vieil-Aix occupies the hôtel d'Estienne de Saint-Jean, a seventeenth-century townhouse that features a grand, imposing facade built in the order colossal. While other similar mansions in the city remain private, this is the only one in Aix-en-Provence where you can tour the entirety of the original residential space, including rooms filled with period woodwork, ironwork, and decorative plaster.
