The Place de l'Hôtel de Ville is marked by the municipal clock tower, a structure dating to fifteen ten that stands directly beside the city hall. Its base incorporates white limestone blocks believed to be remnants of a Roman gateway, and the tower itself houses an astronomical clock added in sixteen sixty-one. A wrought-iron campanile sits at the top, a fixture originally designed to keep the bell from ringing during the powerful mistral winds.
