museum

The Musée Granet occupies the former priory of the Knights of Malta, a seventeenth-century building located on the Place Saint-Jean-de-Malte. The institution began as a municipal museum in eighteen thirty-eight, though it eventually took the name of the local painter François-Marius Granet, who bequeathed his personal collection of paintings and drawings to his hometown upon his death in eighteen forty-nine.
