The Cours Mirabeau stretches four hundred forty meters through the center of Aix-en-Provence, recognizable by its double rows of mature plane trees that form a high, leafy vault over the street. This wide, rectangular promenade is lined with seventeenth and eighteenth-century mansions and punctuated by historic fountains. It functions as the primary artery of the city, separating the older medieval streets to the north from the grid of the Mazarin district to the south.
