The Place des Prêcheurs is defined by a fountain in its center featuring an obelisk of Calissanne stone topped by a white eagle with spread wings. Designed by sculptor Jean-Pancrace Chastel in seventeen forty-eight, this monument stands near the Palais de Justice and the Église de la Madeleine. Before the seventeenth-century development of the Cours Mirabeau, this square served as the primary gathering point for public life in Aix-en-Provence, hosting everything from bustling merchant markets to chivalrous tournaments.
