Paul Cézanne was born on January nineteenth, eighteen thirty-nine, in this seventeen-century building at twenty-eight Rue de l’Opéra. Today, the structure is marked by a statue of the Virgin Mary at its corner. In the years following his birth, the house provided a home for his father, Louis-Auguste, who worked his way from humble beginnings as a hatter to become a successful banker.
