Place Richelme is a small, pedestrian-friendly square in the heart of the old town of Aix-en-Provence, recognizable by its shaded canopy of plane trees and the daily morning food market that occupies its center. Though it today carries the name of a local benefactor, Marie-Rose Richelme, the square was historically known as the Place aux Herbes, marking its long-standing role as a neighborhood trading hub dating back to the fourteenth century.
