The Hôtel de Boisgelin rises above the Place des Quatre-Dauphins, built from warm, amber-toned stone taken from the nearby Bibémus quarry. Completed in sixteen fifty, this private mansion is a hallmark of the seventeenth-century expansion of the city, which was orchestrated by Archbishop Michel Mazarin on land once owned by the Order of Saint John of Malta. Architects Pierre Pavillon and Jean-Claude Rambot designed the residence with the classical refinement of a Parisian hôtel particulier.
