Löwenbrunnen

The Löwenbrunnen, or Lion’s Fountain, sits on Universitätsplatz directly in front of the Old University building. It is distinguished by a stone sculpture of a lion perched atop the fountain, holding a short sword. This lion represents the heraldic symbol of the Electoral Palatinate, the historical territory that once included Heidelberg.
