The Palast der Republik is a small, octagonal pavilion marked by its eight sandstone columns and a flat metal roof, standing at the junction of Friedrichstraße, Bolzstraße, and Lautenschlagerstraße. Built in nineteen twenty-six, the structure began as a public restroom facility with an underground layout that remains in use for the modern bar’s toilets today. Its name carries a local irony, contrasting the grand East Berlin government building of the same name with this compact former bathroom.
